Three Inches Short of the Perfect Trip

tokyo_towkay.jpgHong Kong Racing is incredible! For those who may not even have the slightest interest in racing, we can assure you, the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International held the 2nd week of December is well worth popping onto the list of " Must Do's!"

The quality of horses racing is 2nd to none with the best jockeys in the world riding for wooping HK$62 Million in prizemoney. And that is only the start!

There is the Sale where Hong Kong owners pay premiums on 2YO's brought in from all over the world to be able to have the privilege of racing a horse in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong jockey club donates all profits from this sale to charity...check out their web and we're talking millions!!!

Gala evenings, fireworks and lets not forget the shopping!!! Hong Kong has got to be the shopping Meca of the world. I know where we plan to be this time next year - how about you!

For us the highlight of the trip had to be the Towkay results.

Happee Owner (Towkay - Make Up)(previously Ambitious Owner) winning Race 4, the Class One HK$1.6 Million 1400m on the card of the Cathay International Day. Remember in every race the best are competing against the best so for Little Avondale it was a excellent start!

Armada (Towkay - Dance In Time) ran a huge race after a poor position 200m from home meant that he had to bolt for the line to even get close to the leaders. Despite the wonderful effort from Armada a mere 3 inches stopped him taking out the feature race the HK$16 million Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Mile.

Whilst he finished 2nd he lost no admirers in his performance and only enhanced his reputation not only in Hong Kong but around the world in front of an International audience. It also catapulted his sire Towkay right into the limelight with two outstanding performances and now places him 5th on the Hong Kong General Sires List which is headed by none other than the legendary Danehill.

Those who decided to breed to Towkay this year and have yearlings coming up for purchase at Karaka will be happy to know that you've made an excellent investment! The bank manager will be happy!

The Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Mile was a big moment for NZB Bloodstock agent John Cameron who purchased the winner The Duke, bred by Mark Todd, at NZB Karaka Yearling Sales. Equally happy was Trelawney representative Cherry Taylor as The Duke was sporting the Trelawney brand.

Paul O'Sullivan was another proud Kiwi who was able to share his two wins and a second with parents Marie and DJ O'Sullivan on what is the biggest raceday in Hong Kong.

Other Towkay performances over the weekend...

Opiki (Towkay - Cause For Applause) 2nd Macau

And to top today off Towkay had 4 runners at the Wanganui trials for 2 wins and a second
