Augustus on the Rise

Augustus (Snitzel-Gussy Godiva by Last Tycoon) looks set to give LA another hand in this seasons Sydney black-type spring three-year-old racing.

The Chris Waller trained colt, a half brother to AJC Derby winner Roman Emperor, finished strongly to record his maiden victory in NSW earlier this week over 1600m, with connections now considering the 1800m Group 3 Gloaming Stakes at Rosehill in a fortnight for their progressive charge.

Purchased by China Horse Club for $375,000 from the Sledmere draft at the 2016 Magic Millions Sale, Augustus was prepped at LA during the early summer of 2015/16, sharing the barn with the likes of Addictive Nature (Savabeel-Generous Nature by Carnegie)and last week’s impressive Victorian winner Tigeen (O’Reilly-Knocknacrea by Green Desert).

Augsutus was bred and offered for sale on behalf of Waipukurau breeder Mick Ormond for whom we sold Roman Emperor at Karaka. The colt is another successful product of the Redoute’s Choice/Last Tycoon cross.

Group 3 winner Addictive Nature added to his black-type resume with a third placing in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes at Rosehill yesterday while locally the highlight was the LA bred Director’s (Per Incanto-We Leica by Zeditave) win at Riccarton. Director is the 61st individual winner from 89 runners from Per Incanto’s first crop of 105 foals.
