A Dream Week for a Breeder

Well if there was such a thing as Breeder of the Week it would have to go to Tom Jamison! 3 Group winners in 8 days!!

Pentathon (Pentire – Star Royal) finishes the carnival in style. An excellent result for trainer John Wheeler who’s target for a win in the $200,000 New Zealand Cup at Riccarton went absolutely according to plan! Breeder Tom Jamieson will be thrilled as this win backs up the $70,000 G3 Gold Cup Metropolitan Trophy win exactly seven days ago.
Cluden Creek attempted to spoil the fun but Pentathon really put up a fight to take the honors in the G1 feature. The target is now the Sydney Cup with a possible eye on the Melbourne Cup next year. Australia is not new stamping ground for Pentathon as he raced there also under Wheelers guidance as a 3YO picking up a couple of wins in Queensland as well as a 5th in the Derby and a 4th in the Brisbane Cup. With his current results there looks to be a whole lot more fun still to be had. Pentathon’s full sister Shahiid is currently under service to Towkay. Armada Steps Up To The Challenge Tom Jamison is also breeder of Hong Kong’s rising Star Armada which is by Little Avondales resident sire Towkay and out of Dance In Time A top 3 finish in Hong Kong last night in Race 8 The $3,000,000 Cathay Pacific International Mile Trial was required to get a start in the final to be held in 3 weeks time. (Sam and Catriona are very excited as we’ll be there!) He showed his last seasons class and turn of foot to take his record to seven wins from eight starts. This has improved his rating to 120 which will cement him a place in the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Gr 1 Mile. It was a tremendous win with a stunning field of Group performers including Last years Hong Kong Horse of the Year Vengeance Of Rain along with Bullish Luck, The Duke and Russian Pearl. Unfortunately Armada’s dam has passed away but the breeder Tom Jamison owns a half sister Dance On Deck by Yachtie who is in foal to Royal Academy. Tom has supported Towkay again this year by sending three mares to him. Other Stud News LA Stud and Don Gordon got good news late Saturday night with the arrival of a Zabeel filly from the Gr 2 winning mare Dancing Daze. As a race horse she won seven races and is a half sister to Group winners Full Noise and General Booth. We have a Montjeu 2YO filly from the mare that has been leased to Mike Brown who is the president of the Wellington Racing Club and Robyn Horton, a client of LA’s, and will be trained by Murray Baker. Another successful day for the CatWalk SCI Trust with the committee spread in two directions. Firstly the Bell Tea supported Not Just A Garden Tour where 3 of the Wairarapa’s most incredible gardens were on display. Copious quantities of Bell Tea was consumed whilst browsing the incredible artistic efforts of - Ces Buchanon at Assisi - Rob Borthwick at Te Whanga and - Melanie Greenwood at Richmond Each garden had their own unique style and we’re sure gave lots of lovely ideas to all our budding gardening enthusiasts! As always a lot of support is required from volunteers to make these days extra special and these included, the ticket checkers, tea pourers, parking wardens and Lukes Limos’s (Sam Williams and Stu McLeod), courtesy of x-country rentals, along with the catering team and the clever girls that had their wonderful giftwares that were available for purchase. Secondly Tielcey Park had a Fashion Show that coincided with Elizabeth Charlstons Birthday and they ran this with an auction with profits going to CatWalk on the evening of Saturday. A final wrap up of these fundraisers will be available on the catwalk website www.catwalk.org.nz
