Time Test (Dubawi – Passage of Time)

As the only son of Dubawi at stud in New Zealand, Time Test offers an array of options to broodmare owners. The pre-eminent sire lines of Mr Prospector and Northern Dancer are well represented, but they’re sufficiently removed to build a well-balanced pedigree.

Astute beeders with an eye to the future will have seen the impact Dubawi’s sons are beginning to make a stud. Makfi is a proven Group One influence the world over while the younger Night Of Thunder has made a record breaking start with figures that put him amongst the true stallion greats at the same stage of their careers.

Dubawi, who along with Galileo are the most pre-potent black-type sires in the world today, is a great grandson of Mr Prospector from an Italian Oaks winning daughter of Deploy, a grandson of Mill Reef through his Derby winning son Shirley Heights.

Time Test’s dam is the Group One winning 2YO Passage of Time, who is by the successful Danehill stallion Dansili, and is a half-sister to the top-flight Timepiece (by Zamindar, a grandson of Mr Prospector). Their dam Clepsydra is a daughter of Sadlers Wells and is a half-sister to the dam of the multiple elite level winner Twice Over, a daughter of Observatory, another grandson of Mr Prospector.

So Time Test’s female family clearly crosses well with Mr Prospector and duplicating Mr Prospector in a pedigree has proven highly successful - champion sire Tapit and Classic winner California Chrome are two classic examples.

The most pronounced genetic trait exhibited in Dubawi’s best progeny is
the duplication of
Never Bend

Time Test’s 2023 Australian Group 3 placed juvenile The Years is from a daughter of Iffraaj, a grandson of Mr Prospector.

Mares by Rip Van Winkle, Stravinsky, No Excuse Needed, Per Incanto, Postponed and Iffraaj carry the Mr Prospector bloodline.

Time Test across Per Incanto mares are starting to become a very influential nick

Per Incanto mares carry the Mr Prospector bloodline and if type counts for anything, Per Incanto mares are going to produce some outstanding Time Test runners. The early results from Per Incanto mares is extremely encouraging – six runners for four individual winners including the 2024 stakeswinner Panic.

The most pronounced genetic trait exhibited in Dubawi’s best progeny is the duplication of Never Bend, present in Dubawi through Shirley Heights and his sire Mill Reef, a son of Never Bend. Lucky Nine, Mubtaahij, Benbatl, Al Kazem, Old Persian, Night of Thunder, Arabian Queen and  former European champion juvenile Too Darn Hot are all Group One winners by Dubawi exhibiting this pedigree pattern.

Time Test’s emerging stayer Okeechobee, runner-up in a listed event on resumption in April 2024, is from a Daylami mare, a grand daughter of Mill Reef.

Sadlers Wells line mares have also had a lot of success with Dubawi and the influential factor at work here is probably Fairy Bridge, Sadlers Wells dam, whose sire Bold Reason is a half-brother to Never Bend.

O’Reilly line mares cross nicely with Time Test

Bullbars mares are an incredibly good genetic match for Time Test. From a Singspiel mare, the dam sire of Too Darn Hot, Bullbars also carries two lines of Mill Reef including a female line, as well as a male line of Sadlers Wells.

O’Reilly line mares cross nicely with Time Test, duplicating the Never Bend bloodline and mares with a line of Never Bend’s half-brother Bold Reason, through Sadlers Wells and his son Montjeu, or via Sound Reason, should be considered.

Time Test’s stakes winning gelding Leedox is from an O’Reilly mare while last season’s progressive 3YO Mister Roshan, recently exported to Hong Kong, is from an Alamosa mare. There are four Time Test runners from O’Reilly mares and all four have won, including Leedox.

Northern Dancer’s son Lyphard has also nicked well with Dubawi. Mares by stallions such as Power, Redwood and Showcasing carry lines of Lyphard, with Power and Redwood having the added attraction of lines of Shirley Heights which have gone into orbit with Dubawi.

All of the bloodlines which have worked so well with Dubawi have been prevalent amongst Time Test’s early winners

Time Test’s Group 3 winner Romantic Time is from a Sir Percy mare from an Entrepreneur mare, duplicating the Mill Reef/Never Bend bloodline and Sadlers Wells.

Duplication of Sadlers Wells is becoming an increasing sussecessful duplication, the most notable been the Champion mare Enable. Time Test carries Sadlers Wells through a female line allowing breeders to double up via a male line using sons of High Chapparal and Galileo.

Time Test’s 2YO Group 2 winning colt Crypto Force is from a Galileo mare.

Two of Time Test’s European black type winners feature Green Desert in their female families. Green Desert blood found is best found locally through daughters of Charm Spirit and Shamexpress while the later has the added bonus of being a son of O’Reilly.

An emerging nick with Time Test, is with Danehill. Once considered too close up in SH pedigrees to be duplicated, recent results are proving increasingly successful. His stakes placed filly Timeless is 3 by 4 Danehill and the 2023 Australian stakes performer The Years is 4 by 4 Danehill.

Time Test has had five winners from seven runners from Exceed and Excel (Danehill) mares.

That’s the beauty of standing a stallion such as Time Test. With his tremendous bloodlines and well-constructed pedigree, he offers the discerning breeder a great opportunity to create another high-class racehorse.
