LA Broodmares To The Fore

Tuesday, 04 August 2015 17:31

One would be hard pressed to find a broodmare as prominent of late as Rivertaine (Centaine-Riverlette by Sir Godfrey).  Her son Rapidus (Darci Brahma) started the mare’s hot streak, winning four races in quick succession during May and June through NSW. Then last Friday saw a return to winning form by her daughter Rivertaine Coup (Pins) at Ashburton, before her progressive staying son Shotover River (Savabeel) made it successive city wins with his latest coming at Doomben on Saturday.

New York Minute (Iffraaj-Zenno Queen by Zeno Rob Roy) who created a very favourable impression winning her debut at Waverley last Thursday, was bought from our draft at the 2013 National Weanling Sale. The two-year-old filly, trained by IIone Kelly at New Plymouth, was bred by The Block Partnership who raced the dual Group 1 winning LA bred mare Xanadu (Elusive City-Forest Dream by Green Forest).

It was a big thrill to win the Central Districts Broodmare of the Year title again last Friday with Dal Cielo’s mother Cent From Heaven. The Group 1 winning two-year-old Dal Cielo (Per Incanto) showed his readiness for a big spring with a close third behind Group 1 winners Turn Me Loose and Puccini in his 1000m trial at Ruakaka on Saturday.
