Nadeem 4YO Princeton Spirit (Nadeem-Ivy Hall by Towkay), pictured, and Pins mare Bella Amante (Pins-Bellabaci by Zabeel) added to their impressive Australian formlines with wins at Moonee Valley and Kembla Grange respectively on Saturday.

With five wins, including three in the city, from just seven career starts, the progressive Princeton Spirit looks the ideal type to further the growing reputation of his Cranbourne based conditioner Julius Sandu who only commenced his training career earlier this year.

Owned by Sandhu and a some golf buddies, they never expected to acquire one capable of winning its first three starts.

“A couple of friends and I played golf together for a fair while and the conversation came up about buying a horse and then we found him in New Zealand,” Sandhu said.
“Michael (Kent) Jnr went over and picked him out and we had a bit of a chat and we said, ‘OK, we’ll get involved’ and here we are.
“This is my first one (horse). I guess it’s beginners luck, but hopefully may it long continue.”

Little Avondale actually made it a quinella with anther Little Avondale graduate, Lord Barrington (Darci Brahma), running second for the Moroney stable.

Having her first start for almost 12 months, Bella Amante finished strongly from midfield on the home turn to take out her 1200m contest at Kembla Grange. Trained at Canberra by Joseph Ible, the LA bred mare has won twice and placed from her three career starts.
