Per Incanto Can do no Wong in Australia

Sunday, 20 March 2022 01:05

Per Incanto’s run of Australian black type performances continued over the weekend with a Group 2 2nd placing and a stirring performance from a last start Group 3 winner in the Group 1 Galaxy Handicap at Rosehill.

At Moonee Valley on Friday evening, the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained 3YO gelding Can't Go Wong finished strongly to run 2nd in the A$500,000 Group 2 2000m Alistair Clarke Stakes. Passed in for $60,000 from LA’s 2020 Karaka Book 1 draft, Can't Go Wong, who was purchased from the RTR sale later that year for $70,000, was bred by Christopher Grace, Emily Holmes, Harmony Moki, J Alexander, W Bevins and R Davis

A week after providing the winner Roch N Horse and beaten favourite Lost And Running in the A$1.5 million Newmarket, Per Incanto, momentarily looked like siring a momentous Group 1 sprinting double when Belluci Babe began an exciting run with 300m to go in the 1100m Galaxy clocking 33.89 for the 300m. But for getting held up when building full momentum, one dares to dream what the result may have been, nonetheless the mare still finished an extremely credible 4th, less than two lengths from the winner.

Domestically the highlight was the win of Tony Rider’s mare Can I Get An Amen in the Listed Lightning Handicap at Trentham. Tony, who is a great friend of LA’s and a fantastic neighbour at this year’s Karaka Sales, bought the service and race it with Peter Jeffares and Lynn and Raynor Bonnington. The service was donated by Darley which they purchased at a CatWalk auction.
